Backyard Ale House: A Cozy Culinary Gem in Scranton

Enjoyed my time here. Was a little rough when I arrived, and didn’t know where to sit or order, as they only had two folks working the floor - which I think is unfair to them, as once they acknowledged, and were able to tend to us, they were very pleasant and on it! The food was great! Really enjoyed the vegetarian options in the tacos, and the chicken sandwich was a hit (it was recommended)! You’ve your staple drafts and a respectable choice of spirits. Really casual vibe and the music was palatable. So, just to note: 1) there is additional seating in the back! 2) Perhaps better scheduling of staff, as the two lovely ladies that helped us were great - but overwhelmed. And it makes sense, the place was fairly full. Will return!

Food and Drink are excellent here and are the sustenance to our life here on earth. Sandwiches in particular plus the smoked meats make it a must visit if you want real food and what is Scranton. This is where they held the Office reunion years ago. Burgers, brisket sandwich, chicken philly and even the salsa are top notch, high quality, and most importantly very tasty. Beer selection.,.. taps are great and their canned/bottle selection takes it up a notch. Also, they are only closed on Tuesdays so you always have a place to eat even if you arrive on a Sunday. Lastly, Wednesday is wings night and the smoked wings are a must have.

The food is so good they have a ton of vegetarian options absolutely delicious and great drink options! So the vegetarians that are out there, we order the barbecue Billy impossible wings, the pretzels, the impossible, meatless eggrolls, and the mac & cheese was so good

Great menu options and friendly service. Everything was super tasty. My wife said the French onion was some of the best she’s ever had. The burgers were cooked perfectly and the chicken bites were tender and flavorful.

I grabbed lunch with a few family members and I was very happy with the service and food. Our waitress was on it and delivered exceptional service. I had the roast beef sandwich which was excellent and everyone else enjoyed their food as well. The beer selection was plentiful. We loved sitting outside on the patio as well. I’d go back for sure.

Wow!!! My husband and I recently moved to Scranton and we were looking for a local restaurant to give our business to. We came across this place and I’m thrilled that we did!!! Every staff member who walked past our table asked if we were doing okay or if we needed anything. They were all so friendly!! We decided to eat out back since it’s a gorgeous Spring day. I was expecting to sit there and swat bugs away but nope, the “ceiling” is screened with pretty lights shimmering above. The atmosphere was fun. The food…the presentation was amazing and the taste was even better!!! We will definitely be regulars and will bring our family when they visit town!!!
